Kearney man charged with burglary after allegedly using an ice scraper to gain entry to a house

A Kearney man was charged in the Buffalo County Court on Monday, June 29 with one count of burglary, a Class 2A Felony, after allegedly successfully breaking into a garage and attempting to break into a house in the 1900 Block of 5th Avenue in Kearney.


According to court records, police received a call at around 10 AM on Sunday, June 28, 2020, in regards to a male that appeared to be trying to enter a house using a crowbar.


When police arrived, they found a male on the east side of the residence. He was later identified by his driver's license as Francisco S Colima, a 39-year-old Kearney male. Colima allegedly told officers that a friend told him that he could be there. (Story continues below photograph.)

Police say that there was obvious damage to a door, and also located a long-handled ice scraper in close proximity. The arrest affidavit states that Colima admitted that he used the ice scraped to attempt to gain entry to the house.


Records go on to state that Colima broke into a garage first which is where he obtained the ice scraper. Colima was allegedly under the influence of methamphetamine at the time of police contact.


Colima's bond was set at $7,500 Cash / Surety and he remains in the Buffalo County Jail.
