Holdrege man accused of felony theft by unlawful taking

On October 20, 2020, an officer from the Holdrege Police Department was dispatched to Pump & Pantry to assist with a termination of an employee due to a theft.
When the officer arrived the soon-to-be ex-employee, Eugene Montoya was located in the back room of the store with both the Division Manager and the District Manager. Montoya is said to have been writing out a statement in which he admitted to giving away over $5,000 worth of food and merchandise.
An anonymous source with Pump & Pantry confirmed with Mid-Nebraska Scanner that the total amount of food and/or merchandise that was given away by Montoya was over $10,000 between January 2020 and October 2020.
Montoya was arrested for Felony Theft by Unlawful Taking (Class 2A Felony) on October 20, 2020, and posted 10% of a $2,500 bond the same day. He is due in court on November 30, 2020, for his arraignment.
If convicted of the charge, Montoya faces a maximum of 20 years imprisonment.
