On Thursday, September 24, 2020, deputies with the Phelps County Sheriff's Office served an arrest warrant on a male from Bertrand at his place of employment in Holdrege.
While details of the case are sealed, court records show that Joseph Carrillo, 32, has been charged with First Degree Sexual Assault of a Child, a Class 1B Felony, and Child Abuse, a Class 3A Felony.
The sexual assault charge alleges that Carrillo subjected a five-year-old child to sexual penetration. The child abuse charge alleges that Carrillo knowingly or intentionally caused or permitted the same five-year-old child to be placed in a position to be sexually abused.
These events are said to have occurred to have happened on February 20, 2020.
If convicted of both charges, Carrillo faces a maximum of life plus three years imprisonment.
At this time, Carrillo remains at the Phelps County Jail. His bond has been set $250,000 10%, meaning that Carrillo would need to pay $25,000 cash to bond out of jail.
He is due in court on October 1, 2020 for his arraignment.
